It’s been a busy year of roadworks across the country, with projects taking full advantage of milder weather and longer daylight hours to make progress on infrastructure upgrades and essential maintenance works. The clocks went back at the weekend for the end of British Summer Time, meaning darker commutes and lower visibility for work areas

But improving, maintaining and repairing our road networks is an all-year-round job. And, as we head towards the winter months, Mobile Traffic Products (MTP) that improve the visibility of road works are vital, both to protect road workers, and to enable timely decision-making for road users, with enough time to react to lane closures, diversions or obstacles in the road.

At Highway Care, our mission is to keep everyone safer on the roads, and we are committed to providing a high-quality MTP range. To ensure we do that, we assemble our own MTP in our in-house UK manufacturing facility, where every item is produced to order and fully tested before it leaves us. We also stock and supply spare parts for all products within our MTP range – and offer ongoing support from our experts, regardless of warranty status.

Autumn is an ideal time to order MTP systems such as demountable signboards, light arrows and lorry-mounted crash cushions, ready for the demanding winter months and the hedgerow cutting and verge maintenance that takes place in early spring.

Here are our top three picks from our MTP range:

🚚 SafeStop 90™️ HD: Highway Care was the first company to introduce lorry-mounted crash cushions to the UK highways industry back in 1994. Thirty years on, our SafeStop 90™️ HD system is still an innovative market leader, which can be used on either stationary or moving traffic management vehicles and is capable of absorbing rear-end impact at speeds of up to 68mph.

SafeStop 90™️ HD was designed with both versatility and resilience in mind.  It can be deployed at a travelling speed of up to 55mph. Thanks to its sturdy construction and galvanised external safety frame, SafeStop 90™️ is resistant to nuisance damage but repaired easily following a light or medium impact, ensuring an extended, low maintenance service life.

The safety solution features twin design ram operation, with over centre valves to help prevent the crash cushion from dropping due to hydraulic hose failure, and is supplied with hard-wired cab control and additional external rear controls enabling operational protocols to adapt to site conditions.

🚚 Motorway Light Arrows: Highway Care’s Motorway Light Arrows have also played an important role in helping to ensure vehicles are visible to drivers, protecting operatives from collisions during countless projects across the UK. Designed to provide optimised visibility, whilst also offering a robust and durable solution, our Light Arrows feature a unique stepped profile and a narrow 540mm footprint, providing an agile and space-efficient solution with typical rapid installation times of 300m/hr

Supplied with either a folding top panel or a vertical lift mechanism to complement the user’s existing fleet and site storage requirements, our Light Arrows can be operated from within the vehicle’s cab, and combine reliable brightness levels with reduced power consumption, low maintenance, and an extended service life.

And because we understand that drivers could be confused by Light Arrows on site but not on deployment, we have also ensured that our Light Arrows can be covered by a CE compliant blind system when dormant on site.

🚚 Demountable signboards: The unsung heroes of the MTP world, demountable signboards play a vital role in agile traffic management and road work operations by enabling the site team to provide a clear and visible indication to drivers of any lane closures, diversions, hazards or instructions.

Featuring four durable lamps with 340mm LEDs for excellent visibility even in low light or poor weather conditions, Highway Care’s demountable signboards are available in either P7402 or P7403 variants and in either hard-wired or radio-controlled configurations.

We have designed our demountable signboards as a compact solution, specifically engineered to use minimal space on the body of a pick-up and reduce installation materials, time and cost. The signboards can be placed in the stow position, where the aerodynamic design helps reduce drag.

When traffic management needs to be put in place, time is of the essence to support the safety of both road users and road workers, so Highway Care demountable signboards have been designed for speed and ease of installation. We’ve included forklift pockets for demount as standard in the design, along with optional jacklegs for removal, and easily changeable wicket plates. The range also includes a wide variety of supplementary boards to enable work gangs to tailor the message to site conditions and road layout.
