In just a couple of weeks’ time, the first quarter of the twenty-first century will be over, and we’ll be welcoming in 2026. December is a time for reflection and forward planning, and here at Highway Care, there is plenty to reflect on as we look back on another busy year.

We joined the Ramudden Global family!

We kicked off the year with our ‘Empower’ stand down day, bringing all the team together to plan for the year ahead and share some important news about the next step in our journey as a business – becoming part of Ramudden Global. We became part of the Ramudden family in February, and, as part of that transition, we welcomed some experienced talent to our leadership team, including our Managing Director, Adam Thompson and Director, Matt Morphet.
This means that we are finishing 2025 well-positioned for growth, combining our legacy of almost 50 years in the highways sector with a dynamic leadership team and the ambitions and resources of our parent company.

Supporting major frameworks

It has been another exceptionally busy year for our UK barrier and operations team. As National Highways’ improvements on the M25 J10 framework draw to a close, we’re proud to reflect on the role we’ve played in supporting this major project. Throughout the scheme, we provided operational support involving more than 50,000 metres of our BG800 temporary steel barrier, helping to protect the workforce by separating them from live traffic. The support and dedication from our team enabled mission-critical elements of the programme, including several planned weekend closures, to be delivered efficiently and on time.

Our work on the M25 was just one of many project highlights from around the country, with an array of other deployments taking place, including the A465 Heads of the Valley in South Wales, M6 Lune Gorge in Cumbria, the J9 improvements to the M3 near Winchester, and the A1 works at Water Newton in Cambridgeshire.
We’re looking forward to continuing to support a variety of contractors throughout 2026, as part of several frameworks across the strategic road network.

Innovative solutions for a safer future

Alongside our barrier operations, we have continued to drive and showcase innovation throughout 2025, including live demonstrations of our Falcon 100 Automated Cone Laying Machine at various industry events. We also took part in the LCRIG Innovation and Learning Festival again this year, where we met with delegates from local authorities across the UK, highlighting solutions from our range of specialist road barrier solutions, including our Tertu TimberRail vehicle restraint system and SMA Ermes P4 end terminal. It was a great opportunity to share how these systems are being used to enhance safety on a variety of urban and rural roads.

Making a positive impact

Social value has always been important to us at Highway Care, and 2025 has been no different. This year, we selected Brake, the road safety charity as our charity partner, with colleagues taking part in Brake’s ‘5K in May’ challenge and participating in a ‘wear red to work’ fundraising day. We also supported our clients and supply chain partners through a range of initiatives, including an industry campaign providing Christmas gifts for children spending the festive season in hospital and a contribution towards new flooring for Oakleaf’s out-of-hours mental health drop-in centre near the M25.

Our volunteering days have also continued throughout 2025, giving every employee the opportunity to spend a workday supporting a charitable cause. And, where our support was needed, we’ve been there for the communities in which we operate, for example, sending Easter eggs to children’s wards earlier in the year. We look forward to building on this commitment throughout the year ahead.

An event-filled year

Highways UK provided another opportunity for us to engage with customers and colleagues from across the sector and talk with visitors to our stand about our products and services. To connect with stakeholders from the security sector, we also attended the International Security Expo in London, taking with us some of our hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) systems, including RB50 and The BOSS, as demand for temporary HVM increases.

With those events now behind us for another year, all our focus now is on preparing for Intertraffic 2026 in Amsterdam in March, where we look forward to catching up with delegates from the UK, Europe and all around the world.

International highlights

Our international business has continued to thrive during 2025, with the number of approvals for our HighwayGuard™ steel barrier system continuing to grow and installations taking place across the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Meanwhile, we’re building on our customer base in the Gulf states, supporting infrastructure development and safety standards.
Our Commercial Manager – International, Phil Luke invested time in visiting customers and partners across the Middle East, Australasia, Asia and North America as we continue to strengthen our relationships globally. He also delivered International Road Federation webinars throughout the year, sharing his knowledge with the global highways community. We’ll be keeping everyone up to date on where Phil visits on his travels next year!

Celebrating success

2025 has been a year to celebrate our company’s achievements, the achievements of our team and those of our sector. We were commended in the Health and Safety in the Workplace category at the CIHT Awards back in April and achieved a RoSPA Gold Medal in November, recognising our six consecutive years of maintaining RoSPA Gold health and safety standards.
Our apprentice, Jacob was a finalist in the Apprentice of the Year category at the Highways Awards and also gained a Highly Commended certificate in the DfT Special Recognition Outstanding Achievement Award in July , while our Director, Matt Morphet, gained a Collaborative Champion Award from the Institute for Collaborative Working (ICW), and was recognised by the Roads Academy for his contributions to the sector this year too.

We’ve also been there to applaud achievements in our industry, with members of our team celebrating 20 years of Women in Transport at the organisation’s anniversary event in June, and our sponsorship of the Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion category at this year’s Highways Awards.

We’re turning 50!

In a fast-paced industry, it’s easy to lose track of just how much has happened in the short space of a year. Looking back, it’s been rich and varied, and we’re looking forward to building on that momentum next year.

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re excited about what 2026 holds for Highway Care. It will be the year that we mark our 50th anniversary and continue to support our clients and our industry with solutions that drive efficiencies and help to deliver the industry-wide priority of safety.

We’re looking forward to being a valued part of the supply chain for ongoing frameworks and continuing to engage with our clients and partners in the UK and around the world.
